ABOUT US

RISK MANAGEMENT

Our Compliance division oversees all aspects of compliance and risk management.

JOIN OUR TEAM

Operating as an expert service for our clients and underpinning internal compliance, the Compliance division is a driving force as part of our risk management processes. The team comprises experienced professionals who understand both the regulatory landscape and the practical realities of construction delivery. They work closely with our project teams, providing guidance that's both technically sound and commercially aware, ensuring compliance enhances rather than hinders our operations.

Our Compliance team manages our certifications and accreditations to continually strengthen our compliance standards and ensure we remain ahead of the legislation. The team also manages our compliance with HMRC and Home Office legislation and regulations throughout our supply chain. This includes maintaining our ISO certifications, Construction Line Gold membership, and sector-specific accreditations that demonstrate our commitment to best practice. Regular internal audits and reviews help us identify areas for improvement before they become issues, whilst our relationships with regulatory bodies keep us informed of upcoming changes that might affect our operations.

RISK MANAGEMENT AS A STRATEGY

Risk Management and Compliance is a core business strategy at Shore Construction. We believe that market-leading risk management is an integral part of our brand ideal; better for clients, workers, our team, and the communities we serve. Rather than viewing compliance as a burden, we see it as a competitive advantage that protects all stakeholders and enables sustainable growth. Our proactive approach means we're often ahead of regulatory requirements, implementing best practices before they become mandatory and helping shape industry standards through our participation in working groups and consultations.

This strategic focus on risk management permeates every level of our organisation, from boardroom decisions to site-level operations. We invest in regular training to ensure our teams understand not just what compliance requirements exist, but why they matter and how they contribute to better project outcomes.

MANAGING SUPPLY CHAIN RISK

Successful project delivery requires a team effort from a complex supply chain. Our compliance team play an important role in monitoring the financial stability of our critical contractors. Identifying early warning signs of financial and other business stresses can help to identify alternative supply options as well as supporting contractors who we suspect are in distress. We use credit monitoring tools, regular financial reviews, and maintain open dialogue with our supply partners to understand their challenges and capabilities. This isn't about policing – it's about partnership and ensuring everyone in our supply chain can deliver sustainably.

Our approach includes regular capability assessments, performance reviews, and feedback sessions that help our suppliers improve their own operations. We share knowledge and resources where appropriate, helping smaller suppliers meet compliance requirements that might otherwise be challenging. This collaborative approach has helped us build a resilient supply chain that can adapt to changing market conditions whilst maintaining the standards our clients expect.

CHAMPIONING A TRANSPARENT APPROACH

OUR COMPLIANCE PROCESS

We're invite our clients to complete their own external audit to offer an extra level of assurance and transparency. This approach extends to how we report on compliance performance, with regular updates provided to clients and stakeholders on key metrics, incidents, and improvement initiatives.

OUR COMPLIANCE PROCESS

We've built our compliance strategy into our business process and systems. This end-to-end approach ensures core risks are continually managed and communicated with clients. From pre-qualification questionnaires through to project completion, compliance checkpoints are embedded at every stage, making good practice the path of least resistance for our teams. Our digital systems automate routine checks whilst flagging exceptions for human review, balancing efficiency with thoroughness.

For example, our latest addition to worker compliance checks means all worker documentation is available to view in our online Portal in real-time, giving us total visibility and compliance control throughout our supply chain. This system verifies right to work documentation, training certificates, and insurance coverage before workers arrive on site, preventing delays and ensuring everyone on our projects meets the required standards. The portal also provides our clients with direct access to compliance data, supporting their own due diligence requirements and building confidence in our delivery capability.

MANAGING CRITICAL RISKS

Our Compliance team manages critical risks throughout the supply chain, playing an important role in legal and regulatory compliance, health and safety, and supply chain financial stability. Our approach to risk management is an integral part of our project management approach and long-term supply chain planning. We maintain comprehensive risk registers that are regularly reviewed and updated, with mitigation strategies developed for each identified risk. These aren't static documents – they're active management tools that inform daily decisions and resource allocation.

The team also coordinates our insurance programme, ensuring appropriate coverage across all our activities whilst managing costs effectively. They work with our legal advisers to stay current with construction law developments, contractual requirements, and dispute resolution, helping us navigate complex projects whilst protecting our interests and those of our clients. Environmental compliance is another key focus, with our team ensuring we meet sustainability commitments and regulatory requirements around waste management, emissions, and ecological protection.
